What is my design
Design is a means to communicate all people
Modern era is a blooming season for designs. Designed crafts are unceasingly produced and they are ubiquitous to all people to be chosen
and be used. What would people think and feel when they use the designed? At least, I want my design to be a medium to connect with the
users. My thoughts are linked to the users’ through the design. Also, it is a method to communicate with people, and the people can read
my mind. Thus designing arts, I always leave a part for the users to participate. It means designs are not only the designer’s possession but also
the users take parts in making their own designs. Weird shapes or unbalanced colors are insignificant.
We don’t evaluate design only by its outlook appearance anymore. If design is unique, its value cannot be determined by its structure.
Easy design
I wish my design is easy. I want people to simply understand and feel the same as I do.
Instead of being too revolutionary to provoke “whoa” from people by staring at it for long, I want it to be fitted around our lives.
Folk art
Industrial art is a craftsmen’s skill. I think they cultivated their skills in art at the highest state. However they cut out interacting with the
general public. They put more emphasis on decorativeness and skillfulness rather than the practical parts.I feel like it is getting worse in these
days: they insist on artistry value in their pieces.I value folk art more than the others.Folk art is popular art. It being said, it comes from the
general people. In a self-supporting era, folk art was stylish. It wasn’t as fancy but it was somewhat captivating. However, modern folk art has no
taste because we are not self-sufficient anymore. The pieces that are merely made for money can only be of inferior quality.Among those, mass
products that imitates old day’s folk art are the worst.Probably Amazon tribes would have the most stylish folk art at this point.I don’t hate
mass production, but I despise awful mass-produced pieces just for the sake of making money. My focus is on developing folk art rather than
industrial art.It is not luxury or noble but is fashionable without being shoddy like mass-manufactured products. This is what I call the modern
motive of folk art in my design.
